People To Know: The Songwriters That Write The Hits Of Your Favorite Songs, Star On BRAVO's "Platinum Hit"

Whassup Peeps?

Most aspiring artists don't have any clue about songwriting and music publishing and how they together fuel the music business industry. Its an old system but it works...if you work it!

Successful artists who make it big are very rare. There are only so many Beyonce's, Whitney Houston's, Aretha Franklin's, Micheal Jackson's, R. Kelly's, etc. The thing that each one of these artists have in common is the song. Somebody has to write the song. Sometimes the artists themselves pen the song and other times it is someone or a team of writers we've never heard off.

People like Sean Garrett and The Dream come to mind as awesome songwriters who were "Go To" guys that wrote platinum songs before the world knew who they were. Songwriters get paid big money upfront and residual to write songs for artists.

BRAVO has a new show coming on called "Platinum Hit" which is about songwriters behind hit songs. Here is the link below to a video promoting the show.

Hiphop Appreciation Week 2011: This year's theme is Respect

Nuff Respect!!!

Did you know this week was Hiphop Appreciation Week 2011? Well if you want to learn more about the Hiphop Kulture in general you should definitely keep your ears to the street and eyes on your computer screens, TV's, posters, or whatever so you can get the latest info.

This year's theme is "Respect".

I think that's a good theme and I'm sure it can be applied in someone's life right now. But really, what is Respect? Aretha Franklin wrote a song about it. Here's a definition from Google Dictionary:

Verb: Admire (someone or something) deeply, as a result of their abilities, qualities, or achievements.
Noun: A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

As you can see, it is a verb (an action) and a noun (an idea) and they both share a common trait which is admiration.

To do this Truthfully, we must let our egos go at least for a little while and be genuine about what it is we like or admire about another Hiphoppa or people in general. Don't hate on someone because they have moved further along the success ladder than you.

Don't hate because your homegirl's artwork gets more compliments than yours. Yes there is plenty of competition in the Hiphop Kulture but at the end of the day we MUST learn how to R-E-S-P-E-C-T one another.
