"Stop Rappin'" Campaign Sheds Light On Rappers With Questionable Talent

Whassup Peeps?

This post may come off biased but since I'm not a journalist by trade and I own this blog, I will admit that it probably is because this is in relation to my long time friend and partner-in-rhyme Eddie Meeks. He has started the "Stop Rappin" campaign and a community at Facebook to address rappers or "rappuhs" (as he calls them) and their questionable talent and some of the antics they find themselves involved in.

For example, Lil Wayne is on top of the world right now. In my opinion, he'll definitely go down as one of the greats but he recently got dropped from Pepsi for mentioning Emmett Till in one of his songs....and it was not in an uplifting way. Emmett was killed in a senseless hate crime that left his body mangled and mutilated. His family is outraged by the insensitivity of Wayne's lyrics.

He also goes in on rappuhs like Trinidad James and his "talent". Personally, I don't even listen to the radio or watch TV anymore because I just don't desire this stuff in my brainwaves.

Here is what one of the supporters, Fathom 9, posted about the "Stop Rappin" Campaign:

  • We take it back.
  • We stamp out mediocrity from its nest!
  • We do not, nor will we EVER encourage the celebration of deliberate WAC shyt!
  • While we acknowledge that we each have our lane, this world WILL know Balance once more.
  • Step forward, All Artists who seek balance restored, for an army shall be raised, and we will remind them...All of them, that Giants Still Walk The Earth.

Step forward, and shine your Light upon this desolation.

Lupe Fiasco And Talib Kweli Debate Over Violence In Hip Hop (DETAILS) | Global Grind

Whassup Peeps?

I came across this article at Global Grind and it goes right along with my homie Eddie Meeks' new "Stop Rappin'" Campaign. Lupe Fiasco and Talib Kweli are both dead on. People have been screaming we need balance in Hiphop for years. My question is how do we achieve it?

Click on the link below to read the debate:

Lupe Fiasco And Talib Kweli Debate Over Violence In Hip Hop (DETAILS) | Global Grind

I heard comedian Joe Claire say in his stand-up act that the Old School Rap is not coming back and it may not but that doesn't mean that we as more "seasoned" artists should try to emulate what the younger artists are doing. That's a recipe for disaster.

Keep doin' yo thang!

I believe if you keep making the music you like and your fans like then you will always be successful and respected. Once you switch, its hard to get those true fans back. To take a quote from the movie The 5 Heartbeats, "A crossover ain't nuthin' but a double cross!"

Don't shoot yourself in the foot. Keep making music that is true to you and what you believe and you'll be ok.

Eddie Meeks, RapBeatCreator.com, and More Goodies

Whassup Peeps?

I know its been a little while since I've hit you with some newness but have no fear! I always deliver. First up is my homeboy and longtime partner-in-rhyme Eddie Meeks. He's a got a brand new album dropping on June 21st called "Cappuccino's Unauthorized Records".

Truly a gem.

Now, of course I'm biased not only because that's my brother from another mother but I was fortunate to spit a couple of hot verses on the album too. But honestly, since I've known Meeks since '89, I'm am truly the best person to critique his work honestly and with 100% authority!

The verdict: Guilty!!!

Guilty of being a dope expression of pure Hiphop. Eddie has always been know for clever rhymes and a voice that's like thunder and he stays true to form on this album. This is 20 tracks of pure heat!

I've attached a link to the sampler so you can see for yourself. Like I always say, if you know me, then you know I know good music. The Cappuccino album definitely falls into the good music category.
